Scuba set

The compressed air diving apparatus, even scuba cylinders or English called Scuba, is an integral part of the diving equipment diving - both in professional diving as well as in recreational diving.

It provides the diver with the breathing gas. This can be normal, compressed air (compressed air or compressed air mentioned ) or other breathable compressed gas mixture. The compressed air diving apparatus consists of a compressed air bottle and a regulator, usually with an upstream pressure regulator. The first stage, the pressure regulator reduces the cylinder pressure (usually a maximum of 200 to 300 bar ) at a constant intermediate pressure. This is in a range between 4 and 15 bar, depending on the system. The second stage, the regulator, in turn, reduces the intermediate pressure, deeply dependent on just above the ambient pressure. Additional components of the compressed air diving apparatus may be:

  • Diving mask that allows breathing through the mouthpiece on the regulator.
  • Octopus, an additionally present parallel second stage for emergencies.
  • Inflator for the supply of the BCD.
  • When necessary, an air hose to supply a dry suit.
  • Pressure gauge to indicate the cylinder pressure.
  • Called pressure transmitter of a wireless, air integrated computer, even transponders.
  • Integrated air hose- bound dive computer.

Especially in the English-speaking world, this device is also known under the term Scuba. Scuba is an English acronym for Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus ( German: "Autonomous underwater compressed air breathing apparatus " or " self-contained underwater breathing apparatus " ) and was coined in 1939 by the U.S. Navy. Originally designated the SCUBA rebreathers (English rebreather ) the frogmen. Later, the acronym has been more and more synonymous with compressed air diving apparatus. In contrast to the free - or apnea divers, snorkelers or divers oberflächenversorgtem the scuba diver has his air supply here in a compressed air bottle from which he can breathe with the help of a regulator. Scuba -Diver is now a common name for sports or scuba divers.
