Sculptaria sculpturata

The genus Sculptaria is the only genus of the worm family Sculptariidae from the subordination of terrestrial snails ( gastropod ). Genus and family only contain about 20 species and subspecies that are native to southwestern Africa.

Features

The housings are flattened lens -shaped or disk-shaped sculpted and strong. There shall be set to about six turns, the periphery is keeled. The shell is relatively thick. The mouth is oblique to the axis of coiling modified and strong. She falls heavily from the turns, and is at the extreme end "free", ie without contact with the preceding turn. Occurrence, lifestyle and dissemination

The species of the genus or family Sculptariidae Sculptaria are located in southwestern Africa, hitherto proven in southern Angola, Namibia and South Africa. They live in dry and hot areas with sparse vegetation.

System

The family is provided by Schileyko (2005) in the superfamily Acavoidea. Bouchet & Rocroi (2005) they oppose it to the superfamily Plectopyloidea. So far about 20 species and subspecies have been described, their status is often not sure. A modern treatment of the genus is so far not yet available.
