SDL plc. is a British company headquartered in Maidenhead, United Kingdom. The company's portfolio includes development, consulting and sales of editing systems, software solutions in the field of online marketing and translation technologies and services. The company has more than 70 offices in 38 countries. The German headquarters is located in Stuttgart. Since 1999, SDL is listed on the London Stock Exchange and constituent of the FTSE 250 Index.

History

The company was founded in 1992 by Mark Lancaster in the UK. The first overseas office was opened in France in 1996. 1999 SDL has been traded on the London Stock Exchange. The company took so far:

2000 acquired SDL ITP (short for International Translation & Publishing ), 2001 Alpnet and machine translation areas of the company Transparent Language. The acquisition of TRADOS GmbH, a competitor in the field of translation memory, followed in 2005. 2007 came Tridion, a provider of content management systems ( CMS), and PASS Engineering, developer of Passolo software added. 2008 SDL Idiom Technologies, a company bought in Global Information Management.

2010 Fred Hopper went on to SDL - possession, a Dutch provider of solutions for e -commerce. In the same year SDL also took over Xopus, a company that operates in the field of online XML editing, as well as the California manufacturer of machine translation software Language Weaver.
