SDRC

The Structural Dynamics Research Corporation ( SDRC ) was an American manufacturer of MCAE (Mechanical CAD) and PLM ( Product Lifecycle Management) software. He is now part of Siemens PLM formerly UGS Corporation.

SDRC was founded in 1967 by engineers and led by Jason R. Lemon of the University of Cincinnati. SDRC was a consulting company for structural dynamics, or more precisely for the vibration of machine parts. U.S. Steel was the first customer and an early investor until they sold their shares to General Electric in the early 1980s.

To facilitate the consultation, SDRC wrote software for the simulation and prediction of vibration. Various companies asked at to see if they could get the rights to use this software, what SDRC moved to get started with the software market. In the 1970s, SDRC dealt with finite elements and construction and during the 1980s and 1990s SDRC became a major company in the design and analysis of 3D models. Lemon of SDRC was known as one of the first who coined the term MCAE for Mechanical computer- aided engineering in the 1970s around the world. Lemon left SDRC in 1982 to re- start his own company, the International TechneGroup Incorporated, which mainly dealt with an early use of CAE in development for influencing product design, a method that today the term CP / PD ( concurrent product and process Development, dt: simultaneous product and process development ) is known.

In addition to various other technologies SDRC has particularly in the area of Product Lifecycle Management ( PLM) pioneered and developed by a joint venture with Control Data, however, completely standing in beneficial ownership of SDRC software product metaphase of the first products for presented in this area.

SDRC was acquired in 2001 by the company EDS as part of its MCAD / PLM Software Division at a cost of USD 950 million and later sold to the UGS Corporation, to which it still is today.

Products

I- DEAS was SDRCs CAD software solution. As SDRC was acquired in 2001 by EDS, a merge of the software products Unigraphics and I- DEAS NX was decided in one product. Metaphase was SDRC 's product lifecycle management product. It was particularly designed for the administration of CAD data. Metaphase is now marketed under the product names of Siemens PLM Teamcenter Enterprise.
