Our Man in Rio is an Italian comedy film from the year 1966 by Henry Levin. The film parodies mainly the James Bond films.
Action
The Brazilian Industrial Mr. Ardonian longs for world domination. He plans to shoot a rocket into space, make the beams of every man infertile. Then he wants to repopulate the earth with beautiful women he has previously kidnapped. The CIA agent Kelly and his British colleague, Susan tries to thwart the plan. They get help from Susan's chauffeur, who drives a Rolls Royce full of technical gadgets.
Production
Our Man in Rio was recorded on location in Rio de Janeiro and Rome January-March 1966. Originally the title Operation Paradise should read, ultimately it was decided, however, in most English speaking countries for the title If All the Women in the World. In the U.S., the film was released under the title Kiss the Girls and Make Them Die.
It was originally planned, the film lives shortly before or together with one to publish only twice. However, when the James Bond satire Casino Royale was announced, producer De Laurentiis decided to hurry so as not to have to compete with two Bond movies at the box office. Ultimately, Our Man in Rio appeared in late 1966. Problems in distribution delayed the release in the U.S. but to the year 1967.
Mike Connors claims that he was awarded the role of Kelly, after he had previously auditioned for the role of Matt Helm in the eponymous film series. Moreover, Connors stated that he himself had performed the stunt in which his character was hanging on a ladder attached to a helicopter.
Trivia
- The plot of the film is similar to the James Bond film Moonraker, which was published 13 years later.
- Director Henry Levin directed two films even at the Matt Helm movie series. Here he has been monitoring undertaken by Dino Maiuri directed.
- A well-known scene plays at the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro.
