Sea Odyssey: Giant Spectacular
Sea Odyssey: Giant Spectacular was a three-day outdoor event in Liverpool, which took place from 20 to 22 April 2012, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. It was performed by the street theater company Royal de Luxe from France before 600,000 spectators. At a cost for the event in the amount of approximately £ 1.2 million, the event of the city brought a about £ 12 million.
History
The piece is based on a story by Jean -Luc Courcoult, one of the founders of Royal de Luxe. Protagonists are a big girl, her dog Xolo and her uncle ( the diver ). The father of the giant girl was on board the Titanic when it sank on 15 April 1912. One hundred years later, makes his brother in a diving suit on the way to the Titanic to recover for his niece a letter from the wreck, her father deposited for them. The three-day event began with the rise of the diver from the port of Liverpool and the recovery of the vault, said the letter contains. Subsequently, the divers went on a search for his niece to give her the letter. This went along with her dog looking for her uncle by Liverpool, with the divers and they missed several times. At the end of the second day they met at King's Dock. On the third and last day they stung after a final tour of the city center from Canning Dock to sea and left the city on the Mersey.
Implementation
For the piece was next to the 9 meter high giant girl, the 15-meter high diving and the dog Xolo designed several other models such as a bed, a car, and ships. The giant girl and her uncle were largely constructed of poplar wood, linden wood and steel, so Xolo consisted primarily of paper mache and steel. All figures were controlled in their movements by ropes, pulleys and motors from a total of 110 workers and 20 cranes moving through the city. At the same time 24 helpers for the big girls, 31 for the diver and a further 21 were needed for Xolo. The figures were accompanied by musicians on cars painted under the happening musically.
