Sea Orbiter

The Sea Orbiter is a proposed French Seeforschungsstation.

Initiator is the French " underwater architect " Jacques Rougerie. The total height of the Sea Orbiter should be about 51 meters, of which 30 meters are underwater. The station is to drive vertical and, inter alia, exploring the Atlantic. Originally, the station should be operational in 2010, but currently the project is still in the planning phase. As a new possible date for a stack overflow is mentioned in 2013.

Development base for the Sea Orbiter is the fact that large parts of the oceans are still unexplored. Scientists suspect that there are many unknown creatures in the seas. However, long dives are not possible due to limited oxygen supply. Also research submarines launched in scientific trips to their limits, as they are often too small. In addition, engine noises selling animals.

By contrast, the Sea Orbiter is quietly drift with the current, however, are two electric motors allow speeds of up to four nodes minor market corrections. In the documentary " Terra X - Universe of the oceans with Frank Schätzing " Sea Orbiter is compared to a giant sea horse. Of the total amount of the research station about one-third to be visible above water. 30 meters will be located below the water surface and be equipped with windows. The orbiter consists of nearly 10 decks on which muster 18 people. In parts of the station, the air pressure is adjusted to the underwater pressure. The high pressure area is to provide eight of the 18 total members of the crew space. Even astronauts are then among the scientists on board, as the Sea Orbiter can serve as a training station for space visitors.

Already in the 1970s, designed architect Jacques Rougerie settlements on the seabed or futuristic submarines. The cost of the Sea Orbiter amounted to an estimated 40 million euros.

The end of 2013 Crowdfoundingkampagne to Finanzfierung of ' L' Oeil de SeaOrbiter ' (The Eye of SeaOrbiters ) was started, the box office for a term of 90 days € 344,650. On 01/27/2014 the target of € 325,000 had been reached. The eye of SeaOribters denotes the top module that is intended for communication and control.
