Seal Island (film)

The Robben Island is an American documentary from the year 1948. The film is part of the Disney series A True - Life Adventure.

Action

The film describes the life of the seals on a small island in the Bering Sea. The viewer is witness to seal bulls which mark out their territory on the island and wait for the females. The harem bulls growing rapidly, the care of young animals is described. The other species of the island, in particular, the very large number of birds is described.

Background

The film images were on the Pribilof Islands of the Aleutian Islands north carried out in the Bering Sea. The premiere took place in Pasadena, California in the 21 December 1948. The general theatrical release took place only on May 4, 1949. Producer for Walt Disney was the first of a series of documentaries.

Awards

In 1949 the film in the category Best Short Film ( Two -Reel ) was awarded the Oscar. At the International Film Festival of Cannes 1949, the film won an award for Best Short Film ( Prix pour le sujet - court métrage ). In 1951 it was nominated for a British Film Academy Award for Best Documentary.
