Seamless Branching

Seamless Branching ( German: seamless branching ) is a method that allows multiple versions of a film cut to save space to present on a DVD or Blu -ray disc. Instead of all versions to save individually in full length on the disc, there are each of all these versions joint body and the differing scenes only once on the disc during playback ranked the player without interruption within this " branched " data paths and adds them " seamlessly " together with the selected cut version ( hence the name).

DVDs with seamless branching are rare, since the reaction is technically challenging and can be time consuming especially and cost. The DVD Terminator 2 Ultimate Edition, for example, was originally to be like their American Original mastered in Germany with seamless branching. Because this specialized company, however, was fully booked for a long time and it would therefore have been considerable delays in the release of the DVD, it was decided to dispense with seamless branching. This has the disadvantage that you can only view the extended long version and not either the theatrical version without the additional scenes.

Other examples are Star Wars, the Alien quadrology and some Disney and Pixar titles on DVD. Thanks to seamless branching gives the viewer the corresponding to the language chosen leader and / or credits and also matched to the respective language version of scenes that contain fixed text overlays to see.

The seamless branching is increasingly used in Blu -ray discs.
