Sean Dunphy

Seán Dunphy (* in Whitehall, Dublin, † 17 May, 2011 Baldoyle, Dublin ) was an Irish singer.

Life

In the early 1960s, after completing his military service, Dunphy worked as a carpenter. In his spare time he was a singer in a band called Keymen. He eventually went to England to there to work as carpenters. During the day he worked now he sang at night in the Hibernian Ballroom in London's Fulham. At that time, he learned that a new singer was sought for the show band The Hoedowners. Dunphy then applied and got the job. The band released 1966-1973 a total of 14 singles which all companies in the Irish charts. The Lonely Woods of Upton title and When The Fields Were White With Daisies it ties in 1969 reaching number 1 next to Dunphy even scored two solo hits in the late 1970s.

In the Euro Vision Song Contest 1967, he represented Ireland as a solo artist, reaching titled If I Could Pick the second place.

In 2007 he had to undergo a quadruple bypass surgery. Nevertheless, he remained still active as a singer. He gave his last concert just 24 hours before his death.

Dunphy was married and had four children, three sons and a daughter. His son Brian is a member of The High Kings.
