Seán Ó Neachtain (politician)

Seán Ó Neachtain ( May 22nd, 1947 in Galway) is an Irish politician ( Fianna Fáil ).

Ó Neachtain received his Bachelor of Arts in 1969. From 1969 to 1980 he worked as a teacher. His political career began in Galway County Council, where he served from 1991 to 2002. In addition, he was from 1992 to 2002 a member of the West Regional Authority, from 2000 to 2002 a member of the Border, Midland and Western Regional Assembly, and from 1979 to 1991 and from 1999 a member of the Udaras na Gaeltachta. In the years 1991-1996 Ó Neachtain was chairman of the Udaras na Gaeltachta.

2002 moved Ó Neachtain for his party colleague Pat Gallagher to the European Parliament after. As a member of the European Parliament he is a member of the Union for a Europe of Nations. After he was successfully re-elected in 2004, renounced Ó Neachtain 2009 for health reasons for reelection. At his instigation, in 2005 Irish official language of the European Union.
