Sean St. Ledger

Sean Patrick St Ledger - Hall ( born December 28, 1984 in Birmingham) is an English- Irish football player who is under contract with the English second division Leicester City since 2011.

Career

Association

Sean St. Ledger played in the youth of Peterborough United and joined with 17 years in the first team of the then English third division. It took him two years start in which he hardly came to train until he was finally able to establish since 2004 as a regular in the defensive themselves.

In 2006, St. Ledger to second division side Preston North End. There he was able to maintain a position in the starting eleven. In his third year he played in all 46 league games of the season 2008/ 09 and also scored five goals as a defender. This year, the club reached the Ascension Play-offs, but missed the promotion to the Premier League.

The following year, he was loaned out to league rivals FC Middlesbrough from the seventh match, but returned for the second half back to Preston. After that, he remained another year at the North English club until 2011 this decline.

St. Ledger then moved to Leicester City. At the beginning of the season 2011/12 the central defender had trouble finding in the team, but in the second half he was then regularly on the grid.

National

After a very successful season 2008/09, the Irish national team coach Giovanni Trapattoni on Sean St. Ledger was attentive. St. Ledger was born in England, but eligible to play due to Irish ancestors for the Republic of Ireland. On 29 May 2009 it was first used in the Irish national team in a friendly match against Nigeria. After that, he played four games in the qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup in 2010. In the game against the heavily favored Italians he brought his first international Ireland in the 87th minute with a 2-1 lead, the game ended 2-2.

After the World Cup had been missed, he was a regular in the Irish defense played nine games in the Europa Cup qualification, including the two play-off games against Estonia in which the Irish secured the participation in the tournament. End of May 2012 he was appointed to the European Championship squad in Ireland.

On June 10, 2012 St. Ledger scored at the World Championships in Poznan between the time a 1-1 draw in the match against Croatia (1:3 ), and thus the first goal of the Irish at a football championship since 1988.
