Seann Triubhas

The Seann triubhas, ( Scottish Gaelic "old or unwanted trousers ", compare English " trews " for " trousers" ), pronounced [ ʃɑ ː n tru ː z], is a Scottish Highland Dance, which is danced in competitions and as a show dance. Some of the steps contained the origin is attributed to the tradition of hard -shoe dances.

Formation

The name is commonly attributed to the rebellion of the Scots under Bonnie Prince Charlie of 1745, which was defeated at the Battle of Culloden. It was subsequently the Scottish " Highlanders " banned Act of proscription in 1746 wearing the traditional kilt clothing sometimes under threat of banishment.

As the Scots were now forced, English costume ( " Sassenach garb ", " Saxony costume " ), as a salient distinction to the usual Scottish clothing especially ( English ) Pants such as To wear breeches, the dance should shake off the unloved pants, figuratively English rule, symbolize what ( "Slow Step Part" ) is represented among others by shaking or scraping movements of the legs in the first part of the dance.

Towards the end ( " Quickstep Part" ) is the Seann triubhas under tempo increase in a Highland Fling -like dancing about expressing the joy of the recovery of the kilt. The Seann triubhas is however completely in Kilt clothing and not in pants danced.

Form

The dance is performed in one of the two step variations:

- 4 Steps (3 Steps and Slow 1 Quick Step)

- 6 Steps ( Slow steps 4 and 2 Quick Steps )

The opening step is mandatory, the rest is left to the dancers. In competition, higher levels such as the annual championships, however, certain, annually changing step sequences of the SOBHD (Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing ) can be specified.
