Reprocessing plant

Gained international recognition the city through the nearby ( 1.5 km) to the reprocessing plant at Sellafield. This zeitigt not only positive economic impact. Rather, a significant leukemia cluster is registered in the population for a long time, one against the national average of the multiple increased rate of blood cancer diseases ( see also nuclear power plant crumbs ). This is mainly attributed from the plant skeptical position on circles on their radioactivity emissions. In the opinion of the Commission on Radiological Protection Ionizing radiation and leukemia of children and adolescents from 18 August 1994 it is stated that a striking accumulation of leukemia in children and adolescents had been observed in Seascale for the period 1950-1983, but this is not a trend, of indicating that this frequency increases with increasing proximity to the plant.
