Seaside resort

Seaside resort is a designation for places with beach tourism on seacoasts.

In Germany it is also a predicate for spas, which is granted by the federal states. It is awarded to towns where medical facilities to conduct Kurmaßnahmen are available. The predicate resort also requires the use of the maritime climate in Kurbetrieb.

Designation

Most German seaside resorts describe themselves according to their location as the North Sea resort or seaside. These titles should be in place names, an example is the place Laboe on the eastern shore of the Kiel Fjord. Here the church name was changed by the local council in "Ostseebad Laboe " on 1 September 2004.

Seaside resorts, which have the status of a spa place are called seaside health resorts.

Many resorts have a tourist infrastructure. Seaside resorts are also located on all inhabited islands German. The oldest German and continental European seaside resort of Heiligendamm is and has been a district to Bad Doberan in Mecklenburg.

History

The first German seaside resort opened on September 21, 1793 in Heiligendamm on the Baltic Sea and the North Sea resort first opened on October 3, 1797 on Norderney.

Baltic Sea

Recognition as a seaside resort is part of the spa and resort legislation, which is subject to country law. In Mecklenburg -Western Pomerania, the law on recognition as a spa and resort (spa Act) applies.
