Seattle Thunderbirds
The Seattle Thunderbirds are an ice hockey team from Seattle in Washington state. The team plays since 1977 in one of the three highest Canadian Junior Hockey League, the Western Hockey League ( WHL).
History
The Kamloops Chiefs were before the season 1977/78 from Kamloops, British Columbia, relocated and renamed Seattle Breakers. The Breakers reached in its initial period equal to twice the final in the West Division, where they were subject to the Victoria Cougars in 1980, however, in the best- of-seven series in a sweep. Two years later, Seattle failed with 2:4 at the Portland Winter Hawks. In the summer of 1985, the franchise was sold and received its current name Seattle Thunderbirds. Had their greatest success with the team reaching the final at the Ed Chynoweth Cup in the 1996/97 season, where they were subject to the Lethbridge Hurricanes with smooth 0:4.
