Sebastian Boenisch in 2010

Sebastian Boenisch (born 1 February 1987 in Gliwice as Sebastian Pniowski ) is a Polish footballer who also has the German nationality. Since the 2012/13 season, he is under contract at Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

Active since 2010 in the Polish national team. Before he went to for several German youth national teams and in 2009 with the German U-21 National Team U-21 European Championship. With Boenisch Poland took part in the 2012 European Championship on home soil.

Origin

Boenisch was born in 1987 in Gliwice, Poland as Sebastian Pniowski. Due to the German origin of his great-grandmother Sebastian in 1988 came with his family first to Dortmund and then grew up in the Holy House in Niederbergisches country near food. In Germany, the family took the name Boenisch, because his father had no good prospects under its old name of being hired.

His first goal came Boenisch 19 January 2013 at 1-0 in the 3-1 victory against Eintracht Frankfurt. Beginning in February 2013 he extended his contract until the end of June 2016.

National

Sebastian Boenisch was invited to a seminar of the Polish U-19 national team in February 2006 by the Polish Football Association. However, he accepted this invitation is not it and then decided to play for the German Football Association. On 14 November 2006 Sebastian Boenisch debuted for the German U-20 national team in a 4-1 victory against Austria. In the aftermath Boenisch played several games for the German U- 20 and U -21.

Shortly before his 21st birthday - the relevant date up to which the time a player with multiple citizenships could change the national association - to Boenisch was undecided and considered still to play for Poland, because he hoped for the upcoming European Championship 2008 Austria and Switzerland to be nominated. As the nomination failed to materialize, he finally decided to continue to play for the DFB. Then Boenisch was appointed in the summer of 2009 by former national coach Horst Hrubesch into the squad for the U-21 European Championship 2009 in Sweden, where he won the title with the German U- 21 team. In May 2012, Sebastian Boenisch was appointed to the Polish squad for the 2012 European Championship on home soil. In the opening game of the tournament in the starting lineup against Greece Boenisch gave on 8 June 2012 be compulsory international debut for Poland, so that another dressing change was impossible.
