Sebastian Peschko

Sebastian Peschko ( born October 30, 1909 in Berlin, † September 29, 1987 in Celle ) was a German pianist and accompanist of singers of the 20th century.

Life and work

Sebastian Peschko was born the son of an organist and private teacher. He studied from 1927 to 1933 at the Academy of Music ( now the University of the Arts ) in Berlin and was promoted in 1930 by a Bechstein scholarship. Peschko was a pupil of Edwin Fischer in piano.

Peschko won in 1933 the Mendelssohn Prize of the Academy of Music in Berlin. Together with the baritone Heinrich Schlusnus he played from 1934 to 1950 at home and abroad. He was highly valued as a partner in major piano singer. His other musical partners include Theo Altmeyer, Erna Berger, Walter Berry, Rudolf Bockelmann, Grace Bumbry, Franz Crass, Lisa della Casa, Karl Erb, Nicolai Gedda, Agnes Giebel, Ernst Haefliger, Ilse Hollweg, Werner Hollweg, Heinz Hoppe, Christa Ludwig, Maria Müller, Hermann Prey, Ruth -Margret Pütz, Walther Pützstück, Erna Sack, Hanna Schwarz, Franz Völker, Bernd Weikl and Marcel Wittrisch.

Peschko has developed the status of the companion from the early to submissive role to that of an equivalent artistic partner. He did not paint the vocals, but formed on the wing on the ground. The series "Master of the song" was founded by him. Many well-known singers of the second half of the 20th century occurred in this context. The recordings are archived at the NDR and played culture and other ARD stations in the NDR. In this period also saw the founding of his Cantiamo ensembles with the young artist Elke George ( alto), Gerda Kosbahn (soprano ), Heinz Meyen ( tenor) and Wolfgang Poser (baritone ).

Courses for song interpretation was Peschko 1971 and 1972 at the International Summer Games at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Peschko four poems set to music by Christian Morgenstern, which are presented at home and abroad by the singer Helen Donath, together with pianist Klaus Donath in recitals to the public.

In 1974 Sebastian Peschko was awarded the Order of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his outstanding artistic achievements.

The dancer and choreographer Susanne Linke is a niece of Sebastian Peschko.
