Second government of Israel

The Cabinet David Ben- Gurion II was the second Israeli government that was formed after the first general election of 25 January 1949. This was necessary because the previous government had resigned on 15 October 1950.

Negotiated by David Ben- Gurion and Mapai between Sephardim and Oriental Communities minority government was not elected during the session of the Knesset on 17 October 1950. Thus, the Israeli President Chaim Weizmann authorize two days later the leader of the Progressive Party Pinchas Rosen to form a new government. This new government was then using the same coalition partners founded by David Ben- Gurion on November 1, 1950 as the previous government: Mapai, Progressive Party, United Religious Front, Sephardim and Oriental Communities and the Democratic List of Nazareth.

In the cabinet reshuffle smaller took place:

  • David Remez took over the Ministry of Education, replacing Zalman Shazar.
  • Dov Yosef took over the Ministry of Transport.
  • Pinchas Lawon took over the Ministry of Agriculture.
  • Ya'akov Geri became Minister of Trade and Industry.

The government resigned on 14 February 1951 after the Knesset had rejected the proposal of David Remez for registration of school children.
