Secretariat of National Defense (Mexico)

The Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional ( SEDENA ) is the political " office ( the government) for national defense " in Mexico, comparable to a Ministry of Defence.

It was in 1884 as " War and Navy Secretariat " (Spanish: Secretaría de Guerra y Marina ), and has its headquarters in Mexico City. In 1937 it was renamed Secretaría de la Defensa. For the Mexican Navy, the Armada de México, in Mexico since the Secretaría de Marina ( SEMAR ) responsible.

The Sedana has its headquarters in Mexico City and is to fulfill its responsibilities divided into three regions, the " Under-Secretariat for National Defence " (Spanish: Defensa Nacional de la Subsecretaría ), the " General Staff of National Defense " (Spanish: Estado Mayor de la Defensa Nacional) and the organs of martial law, the so-called Órganos del Fuero de Guerra.
