Section Paloise

Section Paloise is a rugby union team from the French city of Pau in the department of Pyrénées- Atlantiques. It was spun off in 1998 from the same club and reorganized as a limited company. The other departments of the organization are boxing, fencing, karate, kendo, table tennis and pelota. The rugby team is represented in the second highest league Pro D2 and carries their home games at the Stade du Hameau from. Section Paloise has been three times champion of France and won the 2000 European Challenge Cup.

History

The club was founded in 1902 under the name Section Paloise de Ligue girondine whose members initially operated Athletics. 1905 was called the Association in Section Paloise around and began to play rugby. After a few years, the first team was able to establish near the top.

1928 Section Paloise won for the first time the championship and 1939 Challenge Yves du Manoir prestigious. In 1946 you could celebrate both the entry into the Cup final and the second championship title. 1950 pushed the team to the semifinals of the championship before, and in 1952 followed the second winning the Challenge. The third ( and so far last ) championship titles won Section Paloise in 1964.

1988 rose Section Paloise from the second division, but managed the 1991 revival. After good performances in the 1996/97 season (including the third time winning the Challenge ), the team qualified for the European Heineken Cup and was eliminated in 1998 only in the semifinals against eventual Cup winners Bath Rugby from. In 2000 the team won the European Challenge Cup, after the final victory against Castres Olympique.

After the final of the European Challenge Cup was lost in 2005 against Sale Sharks, also left the services in the championship to be desired and the team was relegated to the second division in 2006 Rugby Pro D2 from.
