Secure Computing

The Secure Computing Corporation was an American company based in San Jose (California), which established primarily software solutions for the security of IT systems and sales. Well-known products of the company were Webwasher Web Gateway, the URL Filter Smart Filter and Sidewinder firewalls. Moreover, the company was instrumental in the development of SELinux.

History

In 1984, in Minneapolis, Minnesota by the Honeywell Corp.. the group Secure Computing Technology Center SCTC founded. The main task of SCTC was the programming of an operating system for NASA, which was the first operating system meet the criteria of the A1 level of the Trusted Computer System Evaluation Criteria ( TCSEC ).

In 1989 the project STSC was then spun off as an offshoot in the independent company " Secure Computing Technology Corporation ". Background was a failed attempt STSC and the Bull SA for sale in France. Since the project was working on research projects of the government, a further operation was not possible or not desired by the government under foreign ownership. The government organizations, mainly NASA, had to rely on the continuation of the project. After some years accounted for the addition of " Technology" from the name and it was the name " Secure Computing Corporation ". In 1995, Secure Computing has been converted into a publicly traded on the NASDAQ stock company, the shares were traded under the ticker symbol SCUR.

The company's headquarters was moved to San José (California ) in 1998. After moving in 2006, was the largest branch and the technical office at the St. Paul ( Minnesota). Since 2007, Secure Computing had grown through acquisitions of other security software vendors.

In August 2008, Secure Computing sold the complete technology for SafeWord to Alladin Knowledge Systems.

On September 22, 2008, there McAfee Inc. to buy Secure Computing until the end of 2008. This acquisition was completed on 18 November 2008.

By mid-2010 the former company, continue to operate as an independent business under the name " Network Security Business Unit " within the "McAfee Inc.". Since July 2010, the products of Secure Computing within McAfee have been distributed to other business and operate in new structures.

Products

The product range of the company was mainly focused on the gateway area, focusing on the components required for network and Internet access:
