Seda, Lithuania

Seda ( German, obsolete: Schwenden ) is a city in the Rajongemeinde Mažeikiai in northwestern Lithuania. Located 23 km south-west of Mažeikiai. In 2001 the town had 1309 inhabitants.

History

The name Seda is known from the nearby lake gelegenem Seda, also known as Sedula derived. Seda was first mentioned in the 13th century for the first time. School

The local Vytauto Macernio school is primary school, secondary school, junior high school and high school at the same time. Already in 1538 there was a community school in Seda. 1803 a Russian school was opened and founded in 1836 a parochial school. The Russian school closed in 1915, after 1921 a new school was founded, which was closed in 1935. Then in 1939, the current two-tier school was opened, the first graduates were released in 1947. 1961 the school moved into the present premises. In 2005, she received the name of the poet Vytautas Mačernis ( 1921-1944 ), who visited the school here, and in 2007 she was awarded the status of a high school.
