Seddon, New Zealand

Seddon is a place in Marlborough on the South Island of New Zealand. It is located on State Highway 1 and the railway Main North Line, about 25 km south of Blenheim and 20 km north of Ward. The place is located near the mouth of the rivers Awatere River and Blind River in the Pacific Ocean.

The most famous building is the single-track double-deck bridge over the Awatere River, which had until October 2007. The railway line still leads to cross this bridge, the road next to a two-lane bridge was built. The passenger TranzCoastal holds in Seddon.

Near the village there are at Lake Grassmere a sea salt production. The Awatere Valley is a growing wine region in New Zealand.

The place was named after Richard Seddon, the former Prime Minister of New Zealand. In census 2006 510 residents were counted.

Seddon was the epicenter of the strong earthquake measuring 6.6 on 16 August 2013. There was no major damage and no injuries or deaths.
