Sedilia

Sedilia, the seats in the chancel of Catholic churches, which are intended for priests, deacons and acolytes, and possibly other liturgical services, provided that they move with the catchment procession.

Among the sedilia the priest seat is lifted out in the rule.

" The seat of the priest has to make its service as head of the church and its mission to lead the prayer, easily recognizable. The space at the apex of the chancel, the church is particularly suitable facing, if not speak the shape of the room or other reasons not to ( for example if the contact between head and community is difficult because of too great a distance ). The seat may not have the shape of a throne. The courts of the participants, who have a special ministry should be located at an appropriate point in the sanctuary, so that all its tasks meet without difficulty. "

This seating is sometimes embedded in the outer wall of the church, typically on the south side of the choir.
