History

In a resulting 881-899 Directory of tithing of Hersfeld Monastery ( Hersfeld tithe directory ) is mentioned as requiring a tenth place in the frieze Seoburc field Seeburg. The first section, which is dated to 830-850, contains the location of the second section of the castle, so that both are over 1,100 years old. Still not resolved the dispute is whether Seeburg is for the 743, 744 and 748 mentioned castle in Saxony also, whose names Diversity ( Frankish annals: Hoohseoburg, Einhard's Annals: Hohseoburg, Metzer annals: Hocsioburg, Hocseburgh, Reginos Chronicle: Hocseoburch ) offers many possibilities of interpretation. Since Seeburg centrally in Hosgau - at the interface between the north and the south - was, and this was his first mention Hohsegowe, it has been suggested a link between Gau and Castle name. Archaeological excavations have but found no evidence of a castle of the eighth century. Through this ground surveys but is the old perimeter of the castle has been revealed: they ranged from the present village church in the east to the western tip of the peninsula on which the present castle is located. Combined with the resort name, you can assume that Seeburg its origin to the Frankish castle owes, from this arose, and therefore that both have existed prior to the year 850. The castle was a Romanesque chapel in the west, which was raised in the Middle Ages to the Parish Church of St. Peter and Lambert, and is now preserved as nondescript Romanesque ecclesiastical architecture, a Gothic castle church in the central part, and the present village church in the western bailey, the " stain Church " St. Nicholas. With the chapel Seeburg therefore has four religious buildings. That it was a patch, it can be assumed. At times, the Seeburg was the seat of its own comital Querfurter origin from which, inter alia, the founder of the monastery Kaltenborn Wichmann I. von Seeburg, and his grandson, the Archbishop of Magdeburg Wichmann derive from Seeburg.
