Seelitz

Seelitz is a municipality in the northern part of the Central Saxony Saxony. It is part of the joint management Rochlitz, located in the eponymous city.

Geography

The community is located about 2 km southeast of the city Rochlitz and 13 km north- west of the city Mittweida above the river Mulde.

History

Seelitz is, as reflected in archaeological finds of ramparts and hallway and place names here, of Slavic origin. Mentioned in a document of the place for the first time in 1174 as Seliz in a deed of Margrave Dedo Lausitz. In this he gave four hooves Seelitzer founded the monastery at that time Zschillen. Since the 8th century Seelitz should already have been a place of pilgrimage. In the 15th century the church was destroyed by the Hussites. The parish Seelitz is today with 23 varieties, the largest parish in Saxony.

Village Church of St. Anne

About the older building history nothing is known; from historical considerations, it must, however, since the 10th/11th. Century have been a church. The present building was built in the early 16th century as a late Gothic hall church.

1769-1771 the church was rebuilt under the direction of the re- master carpenter Michael Auer default in a Baroque gallery hall. The equipment with the altar, pulpit (both 1770/71 ) and Rococo Baptism (1773 ) created the resident at that time in Penig sculptor Johann Gottfried engraver ( 1718-1776 ).

Traffic

The B 107 ( Rochlitz - Chemnitz) runs through the east of the municipality and the B 175 runs in the north of the municipal territory ( Rochlitz - Geringswalde ). The leading through the village railway Glauchau Wurzen ( " Muldentalbahn " ) is no longer in operation, leading through the district Döhlen railway Waldheim Rochlitz was shut down. Seelitz is located on the bike path trough.
