Seengen

Seengen (Swiss German: se ː nə ) is a municipality in the district of Lenzburg in the canton of Aargau. It lies in the valley at the northern end of Lake Hallwil.

Geography

The center of the extensive village is located about a kilometer from the lake shore on the eastern edge of the Lake Valley. To the west stretches the flat plains of Aabachs. The grounds around the northern tip of the lake is marshy and is under protection. To the east and north are the gently sloping slopes of the 712 meter high Eichbergs. This is part of the Rietberg chain that forms the natural border with the Bünztal. In the southeast, where the slopes meet the sea shore, wine production.

History

5000 years ago, during the Neolithic period, people lived on the shores of Lake Hallwil. In the field of community Seengen were during the time of the Roman Empire three farms. One was located at the present church and was inhabited in the 1st and 2nd centuries, showed how various finds of Samian ware, brick temples and mosaic fragments.
