Segnosaurus (Eng. 'slow lizard " ) is a theropod dinosaur from the group of Therizinosauridae. He lived during the early Cretaceous ( Cenomanian to Turonian ). The only known species is Segnosaurus galbinensis.

The genus is known from fragmentary skeletal parts of three specimens were found in the southern Mongolia and Inner Mongolia. Below are parts of vertebrae, mandible, pelvis, hind legs and forelegs incompletely preserved. A skull was not found.

Features

The cervical vertebrae were large, elongated and had low Neuralfortsätze, reinforced by the ossified ligaments sacrum were six ribs. The humerus was less massive than other Therizinosauriern. Like all Therizinosaurier Segnosaurus had strong arms and three fingers on the forehand, with the Phalangenformel 2-3-4. The tibia reached more than 80 % of the length of the femur. The foot of Segnosaurus was short and wide, the fifth toe was missing. Each ramus of Segnosaurus was occupied with 24 sharp pointed teeth.

Segnosaurus was probably four to eight feet long and was a cumbersome, bipedal dinosaur running.
