Ségou

Ségou or Segu is a city in Mali with 130 690 inhabitants ( census 2009). It is located on the Niger River 235 km northeast of Bamako and is capital of the region of Ségou.
History
The people of the Bozo founded Ségou to 1620. She was the capital founded by Biton Coulibaly Mamary in 1712 Bambara Kingdom, which existed until 1861, the year of his final conquest by Muslim troops.
The historic Ségou ( " Segou -Koro " ) is located about 10 km southwest of the present city center.
Ségou today
Today, Ségou is known for its fishing industry and the fish market, widely visible is standing in the center of the water tower. Taking place annually since 2005 in February in the city Festival sur le Niger attracts many visitors.
