Séguedine

Seguedine is a small oasis with 485 inhabitants ( 2001 census ) in the Ténéré Desert of Niger.

It lies at the foot of the mountain Pic witnesses Zumri with the best quality salt in Kaouar Valley. The salt is prepared in the same manner as in Bilma or Fachi in evaporation basins. The place is too remote for the salt caravans. The caravans visit rather along the southern Aïr Bilma track located closer salt oases Fachi or Bilma. Only in the Niger on or passing through, Libyan truck driver take occasionally with a few bags with dates or salt. Because of the lack of earning and exchange possibilities ( millet against salt and dates ), the population is declining. Seguedine is the starting point for trips to the 140 km north-west, medieval ruins Djado.
