Seiçal ( Seical, Seisal; Portuguese: Ribeira de Seiçal, also Rio Seiçal ) is one of the few rivers in the north of Timor, the year-round flowing. Most other rivers dry up during the dry season.

Course

Its sources are located in the north of the East Timorese subdistrict Ossu, north of the summit of Mount Mundo Perdido and Laritame. From here, two source rivers flow north, where they meet at Bado - Ho'o.

After the Seiçal has formed on a wide range, the boundary between the districts of Baucau and Viqueque, he separates the short Subdistrikte Baucau and Venilale each other, before finally flowing into the sub-district of Baucau to the northeast. In Suco Seiçal ( between the towns of Baucau and Laga ), the river finally ends at the same place in the Strait of Wetar on the north coast of Timor.

There are mangroves and flood plains at the mouth.

Use

On its shores, especially rice is grown by irrigation, so the flow of particular importance for the population. In February 2001, nearly 3,000 people from flooding of the river were affected.
