Seiganto-ji

The Seiganto -ji (Japanese青 岸 渡 寺) is a Buddhist temple of the Tendai shū in the town of Nachi Katsuura, Wakayama Prefecture in the district of Higashimuro in Japan.

The original construction of the temple dates back to the period from the 5th to the 7th century. The main buildings date from the year 1590 and was completely restored in 1924. Before the year 1868, the then adopted Shinbutsu - Bunri - laws of Seiganto -ji as Nachi -no- Nyoirindo was known. Up to this point in the course of Shinbutsu Shugo no significant difference between the Buddhist or Shinto shrines had been made in the area.

The Seiganto -ji is located in close proximity to the holy Nachi Waterfall -no- ( Ō ) taki (also Ichi -no- taki, with 133 meters the highest waterfall in Japan ) and Kumano Nachi Taisha and forms as well as the Kumano Hayatama Taisha, the Kumano Taisha HONGU and the Fudarakusan -ji the Kumano - Yong Jiang, the southernmost of the holy sites and pilgrimage routes in the Kii mountains that were taken in 2004 by the UNESCO list of world cultural heritage.

The Seiganto -ji is the first of the 33 temples of Saigoku - pilgrimage (西 国 三十 三 箇 所, Saigoku sanjūsankasho ), a pilgrimage, which was first performed in 1161.
