Seitsemän Veljestä

Seven Brothers (Finnish: Seitsemän veljestä ) is the first and only novel by the Finnish author Kivi ( 1834-1872 ).

The work was published in 1870 and fell in Finland at the end of the era of dominance of the Swedish-language literature, led by writers like Johan Ludvig Runeberg. Kivi did not live to the success of his novel itself. From contemporaries, the factory was heavily criticized, not least because it abgebe a false picture of the Finns. The writer August Ahlqvist described the work as " a ridiculous work and a [ s ] eyesore of Finnish literature."

The seven brothers has been translated into over 30 languages. The first German translation of Gustav Schmidt appeared in 1901.

Action

Kivi told in the novel, the story of the seven living on the farm Jukola brothers in the 19th century, to escape a code-compliant life after her father's death and live in the wild youth until they return to their home village after ten years back, a demure record life and raise families.

• Lauri - twin brother of Timo, nature lovers and loners
• Eero - quarreled with 18 years the youngest brother, intelligent and with Juhani

Others

Jukola is the name of an annually staged in Finland relay race in orienteering. The squadron consists of seven men.
