Selah

Sela (Hebrew סֶלָה ) is a frequently recurring tone marks in the Psalms. It is interpreted as an indication of a still point in the song, and as the final character of a verse. The origin of this Hebrew word with the letters Samech - Lamed - Heh is in the dark. Maybe it comes from the similar-sounding word Sel ` a with the letters Samech - Lamed - ' Ayin, which " steep towering cliffs " " Echo Rock " means. Then this audio tone of the Psalms could be interpreted as an echo or chorus. This would fit that this tone marks frequently occur in important and significant passages in the Psalms, which were then repeated.

The Septuagint, the Greek translation of the so-called Old Testament, the Selah with διάψαλμα ( diapsalma = Interlude ) represents.

The character is also often found as a conclusion to the inscription on Jewish grave stones in connection " Amen - Sela ".
