Selectin

Selectins ( and selectins ) are glycoproteins in the plasma membranes of certain eukaryotic cells. They belong to the group of cell adhesion molecules ( CAMs Cell Adhesion Molecules ).

Types

Three types of selectins are known: E -, P- and L- selectin. They differ in their amino acid structure, the binding ligands and are expressed in different cells. E-selectin is found in the plasma membranes of endothelial cells, P- selectin is expressed in both endothelial cells and platelets (thrombocytes, Engl. " Platelets " ) and L- selectin is all white blood cells (leukocytes ) was formed.

Functions

The selectins are heterophilic cell adhesion molecules, which means they are going connections with neighboring cells over others, not to the selectins associated proteins.
