Selective leaching#Leaching of zinc

The dezincification is a type of corrosion (eg, brass) with more than 20 % zinc occurs mainly in copper -zinc alloys.

Copper is mostly deposited in this corrosion process as a spongy mass of brass. The zinc will either remain in solution or deposited in the form of basic salts on the corrosion site from. The dezincification can be localized and spread solid or surface in the depth occur.

The origin of this corrosion is thicker outer layers of corrosion products, scale deposits or other deposits of other parts ahead on the metal surface. Water with elevated chloride content favored at higher temperatures and at low flow rates, the occurrence of dezincification. Frequently dezincification occurs also in the context of strong biofilm formation.
