Selective Yellow

Selective Yellow ( light yellow) is a yellowish color standard for vehicle lighting. It is similarly defined in the European ECE Regulation 19 and the North American SAE J583, respectively, referring as special color for fog lights.

Applications

The intent is to mitigate yellowish headlights blue and violet light components, which are mainly responsible in rain, fog and snowfall for glare. With Selective Yellow can be obtained here an improvement of about 15%. However, this is offset by a color distortion that hampers the visibility of objects.

In recent ECE Regulation No. 48, therefore, the admissibility of yellowish light for new vehicles has been removed (except for fog lamps ) - older vehicles may however use the pre- installed lighting on. In some countries outside Europe reinstalling Selective Yellow on headlamps, however, is more acceptable, such as in Japan and New Zealand. Historically, yellow headlights including daytime running lights yellow were especially found in Sweden, to better highlight vehicles in the twilight of winter. In France, yellowish light was even obligatory to 1993, not only for the fog lights but for the whole front lighting.

Since yellowish lighting in the German-speaking countries was not allowed, there is no independent German term has emerged for the R19 fog light yellow, the direct translation of "Selective Yellow" as " selective yellow " is found only in footnotes. In technical terms tones were distinguished for the front light between white, selective yellow and amber. In the German translations of the German Federal Ministry of Transport of Germany, no separate name was introduced - with ECE Regulation 19 (fog lamp ) in Section 7 " color" the English " white or selective yellow" as " white or light yellow " translated in ECE Regulation 48 ( lighting / light-signaling devices vehicle ) is discussed in Section 2.29.2 " bright yellow " ( 2.29.1 between "white" and 2.29.3 "orange" ) listed the following technical definition. In road traffic licensing regulations § 52 paragraph 1 is taken with respect thereto " may track vehicles with two fog lights be fitted for white or light yellow light."
