Selenourea is a derivative of urea, wherein the oxygen atom is replaced by a selenium atom.

Synthesis

Starting from the reactants calcium cyanamide and hydrogen selenide can selenourea be produced.

Use

Selenourea is used for the preparation of selenazoles. Thus in the case of the reaction with α - halo ketones 2-amino -4- alkylselenazole. The reaction of α - halo-carboxylic acids with selenourea leads to 2 -amino-4 - selenazolonen.
