Self-reference effect

The Self- Reference Effect refers to the schematizing effect of self-concept. People remember better at things that are in any way related to their self-concept.

Are people at an event with a lot of strange people, so they will remember better later on persons with whom they have to talk about personal things or things that are important to them. Likewise, we remember after a movie better to characters who are similar to us, or those associated with an event that matters to us.
