Seltisberg

Seltisberg (Basel German: Sältischbrg [ sæld̥iʃb̥ə̆ɾg̥ ] ) is a municipality in the district of Liestal in the canton of Basel -Country in Switzerland.

Geography

Seltisberg lies on a high plateau at 491 m. ü. M. between the Oristal and the Valley of the rear Frenke. Of the 357 ha of village spell are 139 hectares of forest.

The neighboring communities are (from north clockwise) Liestal, Bubendorf, Lupsingen and Nuglar -St. Pantaleon (Canton Solothurn ).

Coat of arms

Since 1944 Seltisberg has an official coat of arms. It is divided by a horizontal line into two halves. At the top of a silver strawberry flower with golden center and green leaves is shown on a red background. The bottom half is white. The strawberry blossom reminiscent of the previously nicknamed the Seltisberger: " Ärbeerischnitzer » (strawberry Schnitzer ).

History

Archaeological finds show that the area of Seltisberg was already inhabited in the Stone Age. It is also thought that the Romans had a farm. 1194 Seltisberg was first mentioned: as " Selboldisperch ". At that time the village belonged to the Good burgers. In 1305 it passed to the bishop and 1400 in the city of Basel. 1803 Seltisberg was assigned to the district of Liestal. 1855, the community was ravaged by a cholera epidemic caused by impure drinking water.
