Selva

The comarca of Selva is an administrative unit in the provinces of Girona and Barcelona, ​​the Spanish Autonomous Region of Catalonia. With the exception of community Fogars de la Selva, which belongs to the province of Barcelona, ​​are all towns in the province of Girona.

Location

The comarca is located a few kilometers south of the provincial capital of Girona. Barcelona is located about 70 km southwest. In the north of Selva borders the comarca of Garrotxa, in the east on Gironès and Baix Empordà, in the southwest on the 28 km- long coast of the Mediterranean Sea, the west by Osona, Vallès Oriental and Maresme. Together with the Comarcas Alt Empordà, Baix Empordà, Garrotxa, Pla de l' Estany, Gironès and Ripollès forms the region 's territory Comarques giro ines.

The largest part of the comarca of Selva is located in the Valley, which is enclosed on all sides by mountain ranges. In the center of the valley, on the territory of the municipality Vilobí d' Onyar, there is a 4 km wide crater. More volcanic formations are to be found south of the crater. In the south, Selva extends across the coastal mountains of the Costa Brava, with its steep cliffs to the Mediterranean. On the 20 km long stretch of coast are the famous coastal resorts of Tossa de Mar, Lloret de Mar and Blanes.

Traffic

Major transport links pass through the county territory: The AP-7/E-15 motorway (Barcelona- France), the parallel national road N-II and the railway line Barcelona - Portbou. In the district is also the airport "Girona -Costa Brava ".

Climate

On the coast has a Mediterranean climate with low rainfall and mild temperatures in summer and in winter. In the Selva Valley, the climate is humid, but with little rainfall and low temperature fluctuations. In the mountainous north, there is often rainfall, temperatures are low.

Vegetation

About half the area is covered by forest, hence the name (Wald = kat. Span and selva ). On the Costa Brava, there are mainly holm oak and pine forests. In the remaining area, depending on the altitude, there are cork oak, holm oak, chestnut and beech forests.

Economy

Great importance is tourism, mainly on the Costa Brava. Well known are the three resorts of Tossa de Mar, Lloret de Mar and Blanes. In Blanes and Cala Canyelles ( in Lloret de Mar) there are marinas. Abundant hot springs have also spas in Caldes de Malavella, Santa Coloma de Farner is incurred. The operation of the spas in the municipalities of Sant Hilari Sacalm and Amer has been set. Due to the numerous mineral springs and their good quality, several bottlers have settled for bottled water in the region.

In agriculture, grain, wine, hazelnuts and fruit are grown. Of lesser importance is the sheep and pig. In the Comarca there are many companies in the food, textile, paper, wood and metal industry.
