Seminary of Our Lady of Fatima

Nossa Senhora da Fatima is a Roman Catholic seminary in East Timor.

History

The Pastoral Seminar was founded on October 13, 1936 in Soibada. In 1951 it was moved to Dar. In 1954, the seminar was officially registered by the Curia. 1958 the Jesuits took over the leadership of the seminar. In 1983 the Colégio de São José was separated as a separate institution from the seminary. The students are also 50 seminarians.

Various leaders of the former Portuguese colony of East Timor and present state received their training here. It was the only place in the colonial period, in which the locals could get an education beyond the secondary level also.

In 2001, the seminar had 75 Timorese candidates for the priesthood.

After the riots in East Timor in 2006 the property of the seminar was used as a refugee camp for several thousand people.
