Seminole County (Georgia)

The Seminole County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Donalsonville, named after Jonathan E. Donalson, a member of a prominent family, pioneers of Decatur County.

Geography

The County is located in the extreme southwest of Georgia, and to the west on the border with Alabama and south about 15 miles from Florida's northern border. It has an area of 664 square kilometers, of which 48 square kilometers of water surface are bordered clockwise to the following counties: Early County, Miller County and Decatur County.

History

Seminole County was formed on July 8, 1920 from portions of Decatur County and Early County. It was named after the Seminoles, a tribe of Indians, who left his country in the Chattahoochee River Valley after the arrival of white settlers and moved to the Everglades of Florida. On the way, they delivered, led by Osceola, the soldiers of the U.S. Army two bloody battles.

Demographic data

The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 91.0 males statistically every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.6 males.

The median income for a household was $ 27,094, and the median income for a family $ 33,221. Males have a median income of $ 25,909, women $ 20,194. The per capita income was $ 14,635. 15.8 percent of families and 23.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
