Semisonic

Semisonic were an American alternative rock band that was founded in 1995 in Minneapolis. Members of the band were Dan Wilson, John Munson and Jacob Slichter.

History

After the end of their band Trip Shakespeare, Dan Wilson and John Munson joined in 1995 with drummer Jacob Slichter to Semisonic together. The first EP Pleasure was published in the same year at Boston independent label Cherry disc. The studio album Great Divide was released in 1996 with MCA. The breakthrough, the band two years later with the second album Feeling Strangely Fine. The single release Closing Time was the biggest success of the band. The Single Secret Smile from the same album reached number 13 on the charts in the UK. 2001, the band released their third album, All About Chemistry. In the same year a song of the band appeared on the soundtrack of the movie Summer Catch. All About Chemistry is so far the last album by the band that got together in the years 2010 and 2012 appearances in the area of Minneapolis.

  • Title song of the movie Love of the Game with Kevin Costner in 1999
  • Never You Mind from the album Feeling Strangely Fine appeared on the soundtrack of the film Never Been Kissed, 1999
  • Dan Wilson can be heard along with Bic Runga, entitled Good Morning Baby on the soundtrack of American Pie 1999.
  • Over My Head, a bonus track on some editions of the album All About Chemistry 2001 was used in the soundtrack of the movie Summer Catch.
  • 2001 Semisonic contributed a cover version of Wings songs, Jet, to Paul McCartney tribute CD Listen to What the Man Said at.
  • Chemistry from the album All About Chemistry appeared on the soundtrack of the film 40 Days and 40 Nights 2002
  • The song Closing Time plays a major role in the movie Friends with Benefits in 2011. Finals in a flash mob dance in New York's Grand Central Terminal to do so.
