Semmy Schilt

Sem " Semmy " Schilt ( [ sɛmi sxɪlt ] ) Nickname: Hightower, ( born October 27, 1973 in Rotterdam ) is a retired Dutch mixed martial arts fighter. He is 2.12m tall and weighs 128-133 kg.

Career

Schilt was European champion in karate and fought in Pancrase and Pride before he moved to K -1. His first major success was winning the World Grand Prix 2005. During the first round of the tournament he defeated Ray Sefo by unanimous point decision. In the semifinals, he beat his compatriot, the two-time world champion Remy Bonjasky by knockout. In the final, Semmy Schilt met Faith Feitosa. The Brazilian was heavy ko within a few seconds after he was hit by a knee to the contracted Schilt's head.

While he remained unbeaten in 2005 over the year, he cashed in 2006 two controversial defeats. At the beginning of the year at the World Grand Prix tournament in Auckland ( New Zealand) he was defeated Peter Aerts on points. Similarly, the point was decided at the World Grand Prix tournament in Seoul with 1:2 against him. His opponent was the local hero Choi Hong -man, the only K-1 fighter who is bigger and heavier than Schilt. Valuev and McCline brought together 268 kg and 4.11 m in the ring, Schilt and Choi 294 kg and 4.30 m.

Even the World Grand Prix 2006, he could win. The first fight he won against Jérôme Le Banner. In the semifinals, he defeated then the four-time World Grand Prix winner, Ernesto Hoost. The final he played against Peter Aerts, against whom he had already lost once this year, and won as well in the quarter and semi-finals by points.

K- 1 resulted in 2007 in a new weight class and an official world championship belt. The first title fight in the super heavyweight contest Schilt and Ray Sefo. Jérôme Le Banner, however, was forced in the second round by an injury to give up. The subsequent final was a repeat of last year's final, because the opponent was Peter Aerts again. But Peter Aerts injured when he twisted his knee after he was hit by a left jab.

On September 27, 2008 Schilt lost to Peter Aerts his eliminator for the World Grand Prix 2008 2-0 judges' votes.

The World Grand Prix 2009, he won clearly. In the first fight he defeated Jerome Le Banner again, who went in the first round twice to the ground and thus lost. His second fight against Remy Bonjasky was not a remake. While it succeeded Remy Bonjasky Schilt with an uppercut to send to the ground, and the precipitate remained without effect. Schilt was in the fight back and beat Bonjasky still in the first round co In the final he met Badr Hari, who had also won every battle of the tournament in the first round. Badr Hari acted very aggressive and attacked Schilt on without mercy. Schilt, however, managed to counter and sent Hari with a strong slap in the face to the ground. After Schilt was unstoppable, he sent Hari twice to the ground and also won this fight in the first round. Thus he is the only fighter to have won the title five times. He also set a new record. He won the whole tournament in little more than five minutes.

On April 3, 2010 Schilt won the World Grand Prix 2010 in Yokohama on points against Errol Zimmerman.

On 2 September 2010, Schilt was again able to qualify for the World Grand Prix in 2010, after he defeated Hesdy Gerges on points.

In the World Grand Prix 2010, Semmy Schilt was able to prevail in the first round against the Japanese Kyotaro. In the semifinals, Schilt lost on points against his compatriot Peter Aerts. It was the first time that Schilt has resigned from a running tournament.

Worth mentioning
