Sendai Subway

The subway from Sendai (Japanese仙台 市 営 地下 鉄, Sendai shiei chikatetsu, dt Municipal Subway Sendai ) is the metro system of the Japanese city of Sendai. It is the tenth metro network in Japan. You currently consists of only one line (仙台 市 交通局, Sendai -shi Kotsu Kyoku ) is operated by the Office of the city of Sendai. The first plans for the construction of the subway were hired in 1965, but construction began only in 1983. Recording operation took place on July 15, 1987, an extension was opened on 15 July 1992.

The individual cars undergo an inspection every three days and tested extensively by automatic test equipment every three months. A thorough maintenance is carried out every three years.

Special attention in the scientific world became the novel developed by Hitachi train control using fuzzy logic. Start-up, acceleration and braking operations are performed fully automatically, so that the train is moving smoothly and both a large gain in comfort as well as energy saving.

Namboku line

Line 1, called Namboku line (German South-North line) runs from Izumi- Chūō in the north of the city center in the southern suburbs. The total length is 15 km, of which extend 12 km underground, with a total of 17 stations ( 14 of which are underground).

The length of the platforms is 130 m and the gauge of the track 1,067 mm. Four cars form a train. The power is supplied via an overhead line with 1,500 V DC. The operating hours are from 05:45 bis 23:45 clock, the clock rate is between 4 and 6 minutes. All stops are wheelchair accessible with lifts ( Braille lettering in addition ). The appearance of the stops is adapted to the particular environment, such as with artistic wall and ceiling painting. In the two cars at the ends of the train are special, reserved for pregnant women, elderly or disabled persons benches.

Tozai Line

Another route, the line 2 or Tozai Line (German East-West line), is currently under construction. With the full deployment can be expected in 2016. It runs completely underground from east to west, with a planned total length of 13.9 km and 13 stops. As with comparable newer subway lines in Tokyo ( Oedo Line), Kobe ( Kaigan ) or Osaka ( Nagahori - Ryokuchi ), the drive through a linear motor.
