Seoul International Marathon

The Seoul International Marathon ( also Dong -A Seoul International Marathon to the organizer, the newspaper Dong -a Ilbo ) is a marathon in Seoul, held since 1931, since 1964 over the classic distance of 42.195 km. The appointment is in March.

History

1931 Running in Keijo by the newspaper Toa Nippo, as it was known until 1945 was renamed, was launched. 14 participants started on the distance of 50 Ri (23,3 km ). 1933 was extended due to road works on the route once 15 miles ( 24.1 kilometers ). This year, Son Kitei won, who had finished second last year.

After son, starting forced under the Japanese name Son Kitei, had brought gold at the 1936 Olympic Games Marathon, retouched DOA Nippo the Japanese flag from the photo of the Olympic champion. As a dress rehearsal for the Olympic Games of the IAAF World Cup Marathon was held in Seoul on 11 and 12 April 1987. Ahmed Salah from Djibouti triumphed in the men in 2:10:55, while starting for the Soviet Union Kazakh soy Ivanova prevailed among women in 2:30:39.

In 1992, the marathon was moved to Chuncheon, and from 1993 to 1999, he was held in Gyeongju. In 2000 he was brought back to the capital, while the take -find Gyeongju Marathon than in the fall race for the Masters category was launched. 2007, this run was enhanced by the participation of elite runners to Gyeongju International Marathon.

Since 2002, the Seoul International Marathon with the JoongAng Seoul Marathon, the JoongAng Ilbo newspaper aligns in November, an inner-city competition.

Route

The start is in the center of Seoul on the boulevard Sejongno front of the statue of I Sun -sin. The first part of the route takes first at Namdaemun, then on both banks of the river Cheonggyecheon renatured by; thereafter, the route to the East in the districts of Dongdaemun -gu Seongdong and turns. At km 35 of the Han River is crossed to the south. The goal is the Olympic Stadium.
