Seppo Repo

Seppo Hannu Antero Repo ( born September 21, 1947 in Joensuu ) is a retired Finnish professional ice hockey player and coach. In 1990, he was inducted into the Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame.

Career

As a player

Seppo Repo began his career in his hometown at Jokipojat, where he first played in the youth teams and from the 1965/66 season in the seniors team. With the team he grew this season in the second-class 1st Division, where he was active for one year for the club. From 1967 to 1970 he played for the then Premier League rivals Savonlinnan Pallokerho, where in 1968 his second ascent, this time in the SM- sarja celebrated. In the years up to 1976 repo for various teams in the top Finnish league was active, including three years for TPS. During this time, the links Sagittarius established himself as one of the best players in the league and participated in two All-Star games. In addition, he was elected to the season 1974/75 top scorer and in the following year player of the year in Finland. However, he could celebrate with his team no achievements.

For the season 1976/77 repo moved to the WHA to the Phoenix Roadrunners. Despite good performances, his contract was not renewed, and he returned to Europe. Until 1983, he played three more years in the SM- liiga, where he with TPS won the runner-up in the season 1981/82. A year earlier, he spent a year at the EHC München 70 in the hockey league under contract. Since he did not reach the level of previous years and also his stats declined sharply, joined the now 36 -year-old repos for the season 1983/84 in the first division. Until his retirement in late 1989, he was almost exclusively active there for several teams. Was interrupted, this time by only one year in the Danish Elite Series, where he was awarded the Herning IK in the season 1986/87 Danish title.

Internationally

Repo represented his native country at a total of eight world championships. The greatest success he achieved in the first five appearances in the years 1971-1975, where Finland each finished fourth. 1975 only decided the goal difference over third place between Sweden and Finland, since direct comparison had ended in a draw. In addition repo with national team played the 1972 Olympic Games in Sapporo, where he finished fifth with the team. His last nomination for the national team, he was at the age of 35 years, occupied with the Finnish selection at the 1982 World Cup but only fifth place and won a medal thus at a tournament.

As a coach

After the end of his active career in 1989 Repo worked as a youth coach at various clubs, including for the Herning IK, with whom he had become as a player Danish title. From 1996 to 1999 he was head coach of the Danish championship record and won with the team two more titles in the Elite series. Following this period, repo retired from professional hockey.
