Sept-ÃŽles lighthouse
Phare des Sept- Îles ( German: , Lighthouse of the Seven Islands " ) is the name of a 1887 lighthouse built on the Ile aux Moines ( Breton: Enos ar Breur or Jentilez ) in the archipelago Sept Îles. The archipelago is part of the Côtes-d'Armor department in Brittany. It has a range of 24 nautical miles. It is next to a ruined fortress dating from the 18th century, whose job it was to prevent smuggling and piracy.
History
- The original round tower was put into operation in 1835 and 1854, replaced by a five-meter- high building. Destroyed in 1944, he was replaced by 1949 and adopted in 1952, again on his service.
- 1952 France's largest wind turbine was installed in a lighthouse.
- The archipelago Sept Îles is a bird sanctuary since 1912.
- As one of the last lighthouses at sea, he was automated in 2007.
